Alexa Cleavlin (Alex), is an ordinary girl whose biggest problem in life is a relentless bully named Rodney, but all of that is about to change. Shortly before her fourteenth birthday she receives a mysterious gift from her father, a man she has never known.
Certain magical properties of the gift are revealed and Alex is compelled to confide in her best friend’s mother, Sylvia. She discovers that Sylvia is part of a secret organization. The society believes that certain people are born with genetic magical traits but are unable to perform sorcery because the last of the magi, teachers if you will, were killed during The Salem Witch Trials.
Anticipating her death one such witch enchanted a small ring and placed it on the finger of her only child. The ring was passed down to subsequent generations eventually finding its way to Alex. Owning the ring is extremely dangerous. Some, within the society and without, will stop at nothing to gain possession of it. In fact, it is responsible for her father’s abandonment and now threatens to hurt everyone she loves.
As Alex’s enemies begin to surface, events are further complicated by the discovery that the ring is a Medea’s Tempest. Each use is a catalyst for the eventual formation of a great storm. When the time is right the witch who enchanted the ring will appear in the eye of the storm, her intentions unknown. Defeating Alex’s enemies and reuniting with her father will require the help of unexpected allies along the way, including Rodney who is not the ruthless bully he had once seemed.

About Me
- Kristin Hayes
- My active imagination began at the age of four when I insisted that fairies lived in stars. The reputation has stayed with me since kindergarten. Despite the encouragement of my English teachers I pursued another passion and graduated from Weber State University with a degree in nursing. I work part time in the Recovery Room at Avenues Surgical Center and now The Orthopedic Specialty Hospital in Murray, UT. I spend a lot of time writing, via laptop, while I care for my two small children, Ben who is five and Rylee now eighteen months.
